ST. LOUIS –
Andrew Heckenlaible's third goal of the season in the 59th minute was enough for second-seeded Saint Louis to advance in the Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer Tournament as the Billikens defeated seventh-seeded Dayton 1-0 Friday afternoon in a quarterfinal match at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.
The Billikens move on to host a Tuesday, Nov. 10, semifinal against the tournament's second-highest remaining seed, to be determined later Friday. Kickoff at Hermann Stadium is slated for 4 p.m.
Carlos Leatherman started the scoring play by heading a 50-50 ball to
Tanner Anderson, who flicked a pass to Heckenlaible four yards outside the penalty area. The junior forward dribbled in, gained just enough clearance past a sliding defender and beat Dayton's diving goalkeeper with a shot that found plenty of space inside the far post.
Leatherman's assist was his second of the season, while Anderson picked up his first helper of the year.
Saint Louis out-shot Dayton 12-2 and earned a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
