ST. LOUIS – Former Billiken Tim Ream has been named to the U.S. Men's National Team's roster for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted this summer by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
A USMNT veteran, Ream will be making his second appearance in the World Cup after starting in all four of the United States' matches in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, as the U.S. advanced to the Round of 16. If Ream appears in a match in this World Cup, the 38-year-old would become the oldest American player to ever compete in a FIFA World Cup.
Ream has had a decorated career since graduating from SLU in 2010. The defender has earned 80 career caps with the USMNT and spent eight seasons in England playing for the Bolton Wanderers and Fulham FC, including time in the English Premier League.
Currently, Ream plays for Charlotte FC in Major League Soccer, a league where he began his professional career with the New York Red Bulls in 2010.
Ream played four seasons for the Billikens under head coach Dan Donigan from 2006-09. He accumulated 24 points (6G, 12A) while appearing in 82 matches. Ream was tabbed the 2009 Atlantic 10 Conference Defensive Player of the Year and earned third-team All-America honors following his senior season.
Former Billikens have been well represented on the world stage at FIFA World Cups. Mike Sorber played in 1994 and was an assistant coach for the USMNT in 2010. Brian McBride played in 1998, 2002 and 2006. Brad Davis (USMNT) and Vedad Ibisevic (Bosnia & Herzegovina) competed in the 2014 World Cup.
On the administrative side, Billiken alum Dan Flynn was the longtime Secretary General of U.S. Soccer, and McBride was the USMNT's General Manager during the last World Cup.
Also, "Mr. Soccer" Bill McDermott has worked numerous World Cups during his broadcasting career and will once again be the go-to voice in St. Louis for coverage during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Alum Ty Keough covered four World Cups for TNT, ESPN and ABC from 1990-2002.
In fact, there is a Saint Louis University connection in every World Cup featuring the USMNT since 1950.
