Saint Louis leads 10-4-3 |
No. 8 Saint Louis plays its first road contest of the season on Friday when it heads to South Bend, Indiana, to take on Notre Dame. Game time at Alumni Stadium is set for 6:30 p.m. (CT), and it will be streamed live on ACCNX.
The Billikens are ranked No. 8 in this week's United Soccer Coaches poll. SLU opened the year with a 4-0 win over Seattle, but are coming off a 4-0 defeat at the hands of then-No. 15 SMU.
Notre Dame, which reached the second round of last year's NCAA Championship, opened the season by falling 3-1 at Indiana. The Fighting Irish are coming off a 1-1 home draw against Northwestern.
Here are five additional facts in advance of the match:
1 // Four different players have accounted for SLU's four goals on the year. Tanner Anderson, Guilherme Gomes, Jackson Delkus and Andrew Heckenlaible all scored in the season opener against Seattle. Alander Soares and Nick Schramm also recorded assists in the victory.
2 // Tanner Anderson is the Billikens' active leader in career goals (13) and points (29).
3 // The Bills were 4-0-2 in their last six road games last season. SLU was unbeaten on the road in NCAA Tournament play (at Indiana, at Bryant, at Akron) en route to the College Cup.
4 // SLU head coach Kevin Kalish, a three-time A-10 Coach of the Year, is in his ninth season at SLU and 15th overall as a collegiate head coach. Kalish is 83-35-35 during his time at SLU and 132-81-49 in his career.
5 // The Billikens and Fighting Irish are meeting for the 19th time. SLU holds a 10-4-3 advantage in the series. While the teams have met in exhibition play the last few years, this is the first regular season game since 2019. The Fighting Irish won that game, 3-2, at Hermann Stadium. In the last game in South Bend in 2018, the Billikens salvaged a 1-1 draw as Chase Niece and Anthony Brown hooked up for a 90th-minute goal.
