WASHINGTON – Saint Louis defender Luke Adams has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

The honor is the first A10 weekly award for the Billikens this season and the first of Adams' career.

Adams played a pivotal role at both ends of the field in the Billikens' 1-0 victory over Duquesne Saturday night at Hermann Stadium. He anchored a Saint Louis back line that limited the Dukes to just three shots while recording its second shutout of the season.

Adams provided the game's only offense as well, scoring in the 13th minute to give the Billikens an early lead. He headed home a service from a Xavi O'Neil corner kick for his first goal of the season.

The Billikens controlled the match from the outset, holding advantages of 9-3 in shots and 7-3 in corner kicks. Adams played all 90 minutes in the victory, helping Saint Louis improve to 3-3-2 overall and 1-0-1 in Atlantic 10 play.

The Bills are back in action Tuesday for a nonconference matchup against Drake. Game time at Hermann Stadium is 7 p.m.
