Saint Louis leads 28-11-3 |
Saint Louis takes on the SIUE Cougars on Sunday in the annual Bronze Boot match. Game time at Korte Stadium in Edwardsville is set for 6 p.m.
The Billikens enter the match 2-1-1 overall. They are coming off a 2-0 victory earlier this week against Green Bay. Five Billikens have scored at least one goal this season, with Tanner Anderson and Andrew Heckenlaible leading the way with two goals apiece.
The Cougars are 0-3-0 on the season with losses to Kansas City, Michigan State and Michigan.
Here are five additional facts in advance of the match:
1 //Â Saint Louis leads the Bronze Boot series 24-7-3. Since the resumption of the Bronze Boot games in 2018, the Bills hold a slim series advantage at 3-2-2. The Billikens are the current keepers of the Bronze Boot, winning at Hermann Stadium last season 2-1.
2 //Â The rivalry between SLU and SIUE extends beyond just the Bronze Boot games. This will be the 43rd meeting between the teams, which includes nine matchups in the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship. SIUE is the Billikens' second most played opponent, trailing only Indiana (49 meetings).
3 //Â SLU head coach Kevin Kalish spent 14 years at SIUE on the men's soccer staff, including six as head coach. SLU assistant coach Kevin Stoll played at SIUE his senior season (for Kalish) after transferring from Illinois-Chicago.Â
4 //Â Both of SLU's wins this season have come via the shutout, with two different keepers earning a clean sheet. Lucas McPartlin was between the posts in a 4-0 win over Seattle. Christian Herluf was in goal in the Billikens' last outing, a 2-0 victory against Green Bay.
5 //Â The Billikens are ranked No. 16 in this week's Top Drawer Soccer national poll.Â
