Dr. Alanie J. Welch Rhodes joined Saint Louis University’s sports medicine staff as an assistant athletic trainer in August 2023. She serves as the primary athletic trainer for the Billikens’ women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country and cheer programs.

Prior to arriving at SLU, Rhodes spent three years at Charleston Southern University, where she served in multiple roles, including assistant athletic trainer, associate athletic trainer and interim head athletic trainer. She worked with men’s and women’s basketball, women’s volleyball, men’s golf and cheerleading. She also served as a preceptor and as the department’s COVID-19 coordinator. She implemented corrective exercise screening protocols, updated policies and procedures, updated emergency action plans and helped develop a research-based survey to monitor athlete fatigue and recovery.

Rhodes earned her Doctor of Athletic Training from A.T. Still University in 2026, with concentrations in education and rehabilitation. She holds a Master of Science in advanced athletic training from the University of South Carolina and a Bachelor of Science in athletic training from East Carolina University, where she graduated magna cum laude. She has been recognized for academic excellence and has presented research at state, regional and national athletic training conferences.

Rhodes is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, Mid-America Athletic Trainers’ Association and Missouri Athletic Trainers’ Association.

Alanie lives in Bridgeton, Missouri with her husband Pete and two loving cats, Quay and Bijou. In her free time, she enjoys running, reading, crafts and trying local coffee shops.
