Emily Geary is in her third season as director of operations/video coordinator for Saint Louis women’s basketball. Geary arrived at SLU prior to the 2013-14 campaign following five seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Detroit Mercy.

“Emily is an experienced Division I coach who is extremely organized, knowledgeable and hardworking,” head coach Lisa Stone said. “She is responsible for video operations, team travel, equipment, camps, community service and day-to-day program needs. I am blessed to have her on my staff as she shares my vision of building a championship program.”

“I am excited to join the Saint Louis University women’s basketball program,” Geary said at the time of her hiring. “I am thankful to Coach Stone and (Director of Athletics) Chris May for giving me this opportunity. I am eager to contribute to building a championship program and ecstatic to be working with such a great staff.”

Geary was part of a coaching staff that guided Detroit Mercy to a 21-13 record and the Women’s Basketball Invitational championship in 2012-13. In 2011-12, the Titans went 20-14, finished second in the Horizon League regular-season standings and postseason tournament, and earned a WNIT bid.

Detroit Mercy tied for second in the Horizon League in 2009-10 with a 14-4 conference record, a seven-game improvement from the previous season. In Geary’s first season, 2008-09, the Titans doubled their win total from the previous year by capturing 12 victories.

Geary’s first coaching experience was a two-year stint (2006-08) at Franklin (Ind.) College. That followed two seasons of professional basketball as a member of the Marburg Blue Dolphins, a team in Germany’s top division. Geary served as team captain in her second year.

Geary began her collegiate career at Western Michigan, where she made the 2000-01 Mid-American Conference All-Freshman team. Following her sophomore year she transferred to Northern Michigan, where she earned Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference second-team honors, a place on the league’s All-Defensive team and GLIAC All-Academic plaudits. Geary was a Dean’s List student and a recipient of the National College Athlete Honor Society Award.

Geary is a 2004 graduate of Northern Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in social work. She and her husband – Billiken women’s basketball associate head coach Mike Geary – have a son, Cruz.
