Mary Clark was named director of academic services at Saint Louis University in September 2006 after spending three years at Marshall University as the student-athlete program director.
This fall, Clark wrote and implemented Project BALANCE for SLU's athletic academic services program. In addition, she was selected to represent the University as a member of the 2008-09 NCAA Leadership Institute for Ethnic Minority Males and Females.
At Marshall, Clark guided the Buck Harless Student-Athlete Program, developing and overseeing the academic support services program for the Thundering Herd. She published two student-athlete handbooks and made a presentation to the university entitled "Balancing It All: Academics and Athletics." In addition, Clark addressed the 2003 convention of the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A) with the topic "The T.E.A.M. Approach." She served three years as N4A national committee chair.
Prior to her service at Marshall, Clark was coordinator of student-athlete academic support programs at Marquette University. She supervised study hall, implemented individual study plans for selected students and trained and supervised a student-employee staff of 20. While at Marquette, Clark's article, "Student-Athletes With Learning Disabilities: A Model for Effective Supports," was published in the March 2002 edition of The College Student Journal.
Clark spent two years at her alma mater, Southeast Missouri State University. She served one year as an academic advising graduate assistant in intercollegiate athletics, providing general academic advising and programming and implementing a mentoring and tutoring program for at-risk student-athletes. At the SEMO University Center, she was a graduate assistant for student involvement.
Clark earned a bachelor's degree in mass communications from SEMO in 1998 and later earned a master's degree in guidance and counseling with an emphasis in higher education. In addition, Clark has begun classwork toward a Ph.D. in higher education administration.
