McKenna Sergi, who played collegiately at UConn and coached the last two years at Lock Haven University, was hired as an assistant coach of the Billiken field hockey program in May 2026. She'll be entering her first season with the Billikens in 2026.
“We are thrilled to welcome McKenna to the SLU family,” SLU head coach Laura Hurff said when announcing Sergi's hire. “From the start of the process, it was clear how aligned we were in our vision for the culture, accountability and standard we want to build within this program. Her energy, work ethic and hunger to help build something special immediately stood out.
“McKenna’s experience playing at UConn at the Division I level brings a mindset and toughness that will make an immediate impact on our program,” Hurff said. “She genuinely cares about developing our student-athletes as people while also pushing them to grow and compete at a high level every day. Her passion for player development and attacking mindset will be a huge asset as we continue pushing this program forward and building toward an Atlantic 10 Tournament appearance.”
“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join the Saint Louis University field hockey program and become part of such a respected athletic department,” Sergi said upon her hiring. “I want to thank the staff and administration for believing in me and welcoming me into the Billiken family. SLU has a strong culture, ambitious goals and a group of student-athletes that I am excited to work with every day. I look forward to building meaningful relationships with the team and helping contribute to the continued growth and success of the program.”
Sergi came to SLU after spending the 2024 and 2025 seasons at Lock Haven, which competes in the Atlantic 10 Conference, giving her familiarity with the league.
During her five-year playing career at UConn from 2019-23, Sergi appeared in 82 matches and made 43 starts for the Huskies. She totaled 14 goals and four assists for 32 career points and helped UConn to two NCAA Tournament appearances during her time in Storrs.
A native of Chenango Forks, N.Y., Sergi prepped at Greene High School, where she was a standout athlete in field hockey, basketball and softball.
