Sam Mervis was named a graduate assistant on the Billikens’ staff in the summer of 2025 and is entering his second season with the Billikens.
Mervis was part of a Saint Louis staff that orchestrated one of the finest seasons in program history in 2025-26. The Billikens finished 29-6, captured a share of the Atlantic 10 regular-season title and earned the program’s first NCAA Championship berth since 2019. Saint Louis advanced to the second round after defeating Georgia in the first round, marking the Billikens’ first NCAA Championship victory since 2014. The 29 victories established a new school record, while SLU climbed as high as No. 18 nationally.
In his first season on staff, Mervis assisted with individual workouts and scouting operations. His responsibilities included preparing personnel reports, creating film edits of opposing teams, tracking play calls and compiling film for postgame, post-practice and recruiting purposes.
Prior to joining the Billikens, Mervis worked in player development in 2025, assisting professional players Tyreke Key, Trey Galloway and Eddy Jones.
Mervis was a basketball student-athlete at the University of Southern Indiana from 2022-25 after spending two seasons at Indiana State under Schertz. A three-year member of the OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll, he appeared in 56 games for the Screaming Eagles. In 2023-24, he played in all 31 games with nine starts and played 16 minutes against the Billikens at Chaifetz Arena in the season opener.
A native of Indianapolis, Mervis played at University High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in management from USI in 2024 and a Master of Business Administration in 2025, graduating summa cum laude. He is pursuing a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Organizational Development from Saint Louis University.
