Zoe Adkins Headshot 2021

Zoe Adkins

Zoe Adkins became the 13th head coach of Saint Louis University's field hockey program in June 2020.

The 2024 season, which will be Adkins’ fifth with SLU and 10th overall as a collegiate head coach, ushers in a new era for SLU field hockey with the opening of the Billiken Field Hockey Complex on the University’s South campus. It marks the Billikens’ return to an on-campus venue for the first time since 1998.

Adkins and the Billikens have showed many signs of improvement in recent seasons. In 2023, SLU was competitive in a large number of matches, falling in five one-goal games and three more two-goal games. The Billikens scored five goals in their A-10 match against Lock Haven, the most goals ever scored by the Bills in the conference game.

Saint Louis recorded five victories in 2022, the most wins in a single season since 2006. Adkins led the Billikens to wins in three of their final four contests to end the season, including an Atlantic 10 Conference victory over Davidson. Rookie Shaya Dry was tabbed to the league's All-Rookie team.

SLU picked up three wins for a second consecutive season under Adkins in 2021, including a 1-0 shutout of reigning A-10 champion VCU. The win over the Rams was the Billikens' first A-10 victory in three seasons. Rookie Lotte Teunissen was named to the A-10 All-Rookie team.

Due to COVID-19, the 2020-21 field hockey season was one unlike any other. Instead of a regular fall schedule, the Billikens competed in 12 games in the spring of 2021. The team got off to a hot start, posting three consecutive shutouts for the first time since 1991 and beginning the year 3-0 for the first time since 1990. Following the 3-0 start, freshman GK Kendyl Underwood was named the NFHCA National Defensive Player of the Week.

The Billikens are the second collegiate head-coaching stop for Adkins, who spent the previous six seasons at Franklin Pierce University, five at the helm of the program and the first as a graduate assistant.

The Ravens' 37-52 record during Adkins' five-year tenure included two seasons with 10 victories, equaling the number of 10-win campaigns Franklin Pierce achieved in its previous 18 seasons.

Seven student-athletes earned a total of 10 Northeast-10 All-Conference team honors under Adkins' direction, including four in the 2019 season.

A four-year letterwinner at the University of Maine, Adkins finished with 76 games played and tallied 11 goals and 12 assists for 34 points.

Originally from Coquitlam, British Columbia, Adkins graduated from Maine in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology and physical education. She earned her master's degree in sports management from Franklin Pierce in 2016.
