Skip Grossman, who has more than 40 years of coaching experience, joined Kevin Kalish's staff as a volunteer assistant coach in 2020. Grossman will work primarily with the Billiken goalkeepers. This will be Grossman’s second stint at SLU, as he served on the staff of legendary SLU head coach Harry Keough in 1979.
“We are thrilled to have Skip join our staff,” SLU head coach Kevin Kalish said at the time of his hire. “I have known and worked with Skip over the last two decades and he has one of the best soccer minds in the game. He will be a tremendous mentor to our goalkeepers, and he will help create an environment for our players to reach their potential on and off the field."
Grossman has been highly involved with the Saint Louis FC/St. Louis Scott Gallagher Missouri youth programs. He was head coach of the U17 boys’ team that qualified for the National USSDA playoffs. Grossman also led teams that captured an NPL regional championship in 2015 and a Missouri State Cup championship in 2014.
Additional coaching stops included a four-year stint as head boy’s soccer coach at MICDS and an assistant coaching position at the San Juan Soccer Club in Sacramento, Calif.
A St. Louis native, Grossman and his brother own Grossman Iron & Steel Company, a third-generation family owned scrap metal processing company that recently celebrated its 100th anniversary.
Grossman graduated from Williams College (Williamstown, Pa.) in 1977 and earned an MBA from Columbia University in 1982.
Grossman and his wife, Karen, have a daughter Lauren and a son Cole. Cole was a standout high school player from St. Louis who went on to enjoy a professional career in Major League Soccer and Europe. He is currently working for Manchester United in England.
