CHICAGO -
Saint Louis University women' soccer posted a decisive 4-0 victory at DePaul this afternoon behind a pair of goals from freshman Christie Cigno. The Billikens got four goals and four assists all from the same three players as the offense was clicking in the attacking third. The efficient offense was enough to back the shutout goalkeeping of senior Meghann Burke.
Despite DePaul controlling the ball for much of the first half, it was the Billikens that got on the board with a pair of goals in the opening stanza. The first came in the game's 34th minute when Christie Cigno leapt for the header and angled it to the opposite side past DPU first-half keeper Lindsey Deason.
The Billikens' second goal came in similar fashion after Kehl's diligence on the endline. Jamie Perry had the ball on the right flank and chipped it over a defender to get it to Kehl near the corner. Dribbling through a pair of defenders toward the goal, Kehl lined up the angle and tucked the shot inside the near post to give the Bills a 2-0 lead with three minutes left in the half.
The game's final strike involved similar players again as Cigno moved the ball through traffic in the midfield to fine Perry out wide to her left. Goalkeeper Megan Pekala attacked the ball only to see Perry chip it over her and into the goal. The final goal came off the head of Cigno when Pekala came out to challenge the corner kick from Perry, and Cigno out leapt her.
