Final Stats

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Saint Louis University women's soccer overwhelmed Memphis in a 4-0 victory in its Conference USA opener tonight at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex. Senior Shannon Myers picked up the game winner in the 44th minute, but it was the Billikens' total team effort in the second half that thwarted Memphis' hopes of a comeback bid.

Saint Louis out-shot Memphis 10-5 in the first period, but didn't get on the board in the final minutes of the half. Myers picked up her first goal of the season after a corner deflected off freshman Kelly Ferguson and to Myer's feet. Collecting the ball amid a sea of defenders, the senior midfielder lifted the shot over the keeper to put the Bills on top.

The Billikens went right back on the scoring trail in the first minutes of the second half. Ferguson netted her first goal of the season in the 47th minute after freshman Christie Cigno dribbled the ball up the left wing then toward the goal. The Billiken midfielder then sent the ball back out to Ferguson who took the shot from 25 yards and tucked it under the crossbar.

Junior Anny Lucier then picked up back-to-back goals in the 66th and 71st minutes. The first goal came by something of a fluke as Tressa Pecher launched a deadball into the box where senior Mandy Trokey took a shot that ended up deflecting off Lucier and into the goal. The final goal was the most expertly developed. Senior Jenny Kehl took the ball down the right wing to the end line and perfectly crossed it to Lucier, who had precisely timed her run to one-time the ball past the keeper.

The Billikens ended up out-shooting the Tigers 20-11 and earning 11 corners. Senior goalkeeper Meghann Burke recorded the shutout for the Bills, posting eight saves, although many were routine.

The Billikens wrap up their four-game road swing at UAB on Sun., Sept. 22, at 1 p.m.
