St. Louis - George Washington forward Michael Rollings scored twice as the Colonials snapped Saint Louis' six-game winning streak this afternoon by blanking the Billikens 2-0 in an Atlantic 10 Conference men's soccer match at Mount Vernon Athletic Complex. The Colonials broke a three-game winless skein and posted only their second win in their last 11 games while also handing the Bills their first A-10 loss.
"It was a result that we couldn't afford, and now we have to come up with our best effort Sunday at La Salle," Billikens head coach Dan Donigan said.
After a scoreless first half, Rollings tallied his the winner in the 52nd minute on a break-in off a through ball from junior midfielder Arturo Pedroso. Rollings padded the lead in the 72nd minute by intercepting an errant SLU pass in the back and streaking in unmolested on Bills keeper Jeff Sackman.
George Washington (5-7-3 overall, 2-4-1 A-10) out-shot the Billikens 10-8 and had a 6-4 edge on corner kicks. GW keeper Derek Biss made two saves to post his second shutout of the season, while SLU keeper Jeff Sackman made three stops.
Saint Louis (8-5-1, 5-1-0) continues its five-game A-10 road swing to conclude the regular season when the Bills visit La Salle on Sun., Oct. 30.
