Final Stats

St. Louis - Saint Louis midfielders Kelly Ferguson and Courtney Hulcer combined for two goals off free kicks as the Billikens rallied past Illinois State 2-1 in overtime this afternoon in a non-conference women's soccer match at Robert R. Hermann Stadium. Ferguson scored both goals off Hulcer's serves with the winner coming in the 95th minute.

In a scoreless first half, the Billikens had a definite advantage in possession time and chances, out-shooting the Redbirds 6-0. SLU forward Cassi Winchell had a pair of opportunities in the first five minutes, but couldn't cash in. Ferguson also had a pair of shots, but was wide with one and denied by ISU keeper Andrea Shaw on the other. The Billikens' All-America candidate, Hulcer pounded a shot off the left post in the 31st minute that led to the Bills' only corner kick of the half.

After the intermission, the Redbirds registered the first three shots of the second half, and ISU jumped on top in the 63rd minute as sophomore midfielder Carrie Schurr connected on an eight-yard header to the right post. Joyce Kleinheinz picked up the assist.

Saint Louis increased the pressure and knotted the game at 69:22. With Hulcer on a free kick from 40 yards, Ferguson got her head on the serve among a group of Redbirds defenders and charging ISU keeper Erica Goethel. The ball popped over Goethel and rolled into the goal.

In overtime again with Hulcer more than 30 yards from the goal, Ferguson ran on to the serve unmarked and connected on an eight-yarder to the right post.

SLU handed Illinois State (2-1-1) its first loss of the year as the Bills out-shot the Redbirds 13-7. Billiken keeper Amanda Martin made five saves to pick up the victory. ISU's Andrea Shaw was in goal for the first half and made two saves before being supplanted by Goethel in the second session.

Saint Louis (3-1-0) visits Mississippi on Thu., Oct. 8.
