Santa Clara, Calif. - Saint Louis senior midfielder Ross Kaufman stopped a Navy penalty kick in the 75th minute to cement the victory.
"We just felt fortunate to come away with a win on a long road trip after a game Friday night that was physically draining," Billikens head coach Dan Donigan said. "We want to thank Santa Clara for their hospitality in getting a second game for us to play out here and handling the event management for us."
The Billikens' Hermann Trophy candidate, DiRaimondo put SLU on top in the 33rd minute as he drilled the PK into the lower left corner. Bills senior defender Dan Guffey was fouled going up for a header off a corner kick to draw the foul.
Sophomore forward Kyle Patterson gave the Bills some breathing room in the 66th minute after a restart from the right flank. Senior midfielder Brian Grazier made the initial play on the ball that went off the Navy wall. Defender Calum Angus served it back into the Navy penalty area where Dado Hamzagic got a whack at it before Patterson found the back netting.
In his first career start, Kaufman made the save of the day as he stopped Midshipmen leading scorer McKenzie Plank on a PK. Kaufman dived to his right to preserve the shutout.
The Billikens out-shot Navy (3-3-0) 17-4 and had a 4-3 edge in corners. Kaufman registered two saves to post his first career win and shutout.
