DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -
It was a tough day for the Saint Louis men's tennis team as it dropped a pair of matches to Bethune-Cookman 2-4 and Embry-Riddle, the fourth-ranked team in the NAIA, 0-9 n Florida on Saturday. Matt Gordon and P.J. Hendrie picked up the Billikens only wins of the day in singles action against BCU.
In the first match during which only singles were contested, the Billikens kept nearly every match close. However, Gordon and Hendrie were the only SLU players to walk away with victories at the sixth and third positions, respectively. Hendrie downed his opponent 4-6, 6-2 (10-1) while Gordon easily bested his foe at the sixth position 6-0, 6-2.
The Embry-Riddle Eagles were tooo much to handle in the second match as they swept all the singles and doubles matches. Gordon was the only player who really got close to his competition at the sixth singles position but he ultimately fell 4-6, 2-6.
Saint Louis continues its 10-match road trip on Thu., March 22 against Eastern Illinois at 2 p.m.
