ST. LOUIS -
Junior Julia Bradenberg (St. Louis/Ursuline) enjoyed a successful return to the Saint Louis lineup Friday night, scoring the game-tying goal against Saint Joseph's in the 83rd minute in an Atlantic 10 contest that ended in a 1-1 deadlock at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.
Bradenberg, who had missed the last three outings due to injury, tallied her team-leading third goal of the season at the 82:29 mark. Taking a pass from the right flank from junior Kristen Sapienza (St. Louis/St. Joseph's), she controlled the ball, turned and fired a shot from 16 yards that eluded Hawks' keeper Cara Critchlow. The assist was Sapienza's team-high third of the campaign.
Saint Louis (5-3-4, 1-2-1), which set the program record for ties, dominated the first half. The Billikens out-shot Saint Joseph's (7-3-2, 2-0-2) 7-0 in the opening stanza, including two shots on goal apiece by junior Susan Frederickson (St. Louis/St. Joseph's) and sophomore Caitlin Werkmeister (St. Louis/Cor Jesu).
However, the Hawks forced the action early in the second half, and it paid off with the first goal of the game. Jen Pfeiffer gathered a loose ball just inside the 18 and chalked up her team-leading eighth marker of the year at 65:38.
The Bills concluded regulation with a 15-6 advantage in shots, then earned a 4-1 edge in the two extra frames combined to finish with a 19-7 margin. Bradenberg tied her career high with five shots and Frederickson added four. Freshman Hannah Perry (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) made two saves, while Critchlow collected two more stops in the second half to finish with six.
The Billikens continue A-10 action Sunday, returning to the Hermann Stadium pitch for a 1 p.m. game against Temple.
