ST. LOUIS -
Dayton scored a goal in the third minute and made it stand up Sunday afternoon, defeating Saint Louis 1-0 in the Billikens' regular-season home finale at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.
The Billikens (9-4-4, 5-3-1) saw their four-game winning streak and five-game unbeaten streak halted on Senior Day. The loss dropped SLU into a fifth-place tie with St. Bonaventure in the Atlantic 10 Conference standings with two games to play. The top six teams will advance to the A-10 Championship, which Saint Louis will host Nov. 6-9.
Dayton (12-5-1, 6-2-1) netted the game's only goal on a corner kick at the 2:53 mark. Kelly Blumenschein sent the ball across the goal mouth, and Lauren MacCormick was able to direct it into the net through traffic from close range on the left side. The goal was MacCormick's fourth of the season, while Blumenschein's assist was her fifth of the year.
The Flyers earned a 12-9 advantage in shots and a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Freshman Andrea Barklage (Lake St. Louis/Incarnate Word) tallied a game-high three shots. Freshman goalkeeper Hannah Perry (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) and Dayton's Deana Waintraub collected two saves apiece.
The Billikens hit the road next weekend for their final two regular-season games. Saint Louis plays at Massachusetts on Friday, Oct. 31, at 2 p.m. (CT) and travels to Rhode Island Sunday for a noon (CT) kickoff.
