Billikens Down Hawks 64-55

Philadelphia - The Saint Louis Billikens out-rebounded Saint Joseph's 41-28, including 13 offensive rebounds, and posted a 64-55 win over the Hawks on Thursday evening at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse in front of a national television audience on ESPN2. The win was the second straight in Philadelphia for the Billikens, after they posted a win at La Salle earlier this season.

The Hawks scored the first four points of the game until Bryce Husak tallied on a lob play to put the Billikens on the scoreboard. Saint Joseph's led 6-2 before Kevin Lisch drained a baseline jumper to draw SLU to 6-4. The Hawks were up 12-8 be fore Lisch swished a trey from the left corner to draw SLU to 12-11. After two SJU free throws, Lisch sank another trey to give the Billikens their first lead of the game 14-13 seven minutes in. The Hawks scored inside, but the Billikens countered with two III free throws and a 3-pointer by Danny Brown to surge to a 19-15 advantage at the 11 minute mark.

Saint Joseph's scored four straight to tie the game at 19-19, but the Billikens reeled off a 7-0 run. Lisch began the run with a jumper, Liddell drained a 3-pointer, and Lisch's driving layup capped the outburst for a 26-19 SLU lead at the 7:09 mark of the first half. The Hawks closed to 28-26, but Liddelll sank another trey from the right side for a 31-26 lead. SJU converted a three-point play in the final seconds as the Billikens settled for a 31-29 lead at the break. The Billikens out-rebounded the Hawks by seven, including grabbing seven offensive rebounds, and SLU hit five 3-pointers in the first half.

The Billikens opened the second half with six straight points to take their largest lead of the evening, 37-29. Luke Meyer opened with a layup, and Husak scored underneath on an inbounds play. Meyer tallied again on a drive to the basket for an eight-point Billikens lead at the 17:24 mark. The Billiekns held SJU without a point for almost five minutes until two free throws finally put the Hawks on the scoreboard in the second half. The Hawks cut the deficit to 37-33, but the Billikens answered with a 7-2 run punctuated by a flying dunk by Brown. The Billikens restored a nine-point lead on two free throws by Brown for a 44-35 margin with 11:54 left in the game. Liddell drained a 3-pointer late in the shot clock, and a layup by Husak off a feed by Liddell pushed the Billikens to a 51-39 advantage with exactly nine minutes left in the contest. The Hawks cut the lead to single digits at 53-44 with 7:31 left to play. The Hawks chipped away at the lead and cut the gap to 54-51 with a 7-1 run with 3:20 remaining. Liddell hit both ends of a one-and-one for a five-point at 56-51, but Rob Ferguson scored inside for the Hawks. On SLU's next possession, Lisch hit a deep three from the right corner for a 59-53 lead with 1:23 remaining. The Hawks missed on their next possession, but the Billikens count not convert a one-and-one. Liddell made one free throw for a 60-53 lead with 25 seconds left. The Hawks scored a layup, but Brown made four straight free throws to seal the win for SLU.

Liddell led the Billikens with 21 points, while Lisch added 17. Brown chipped in 11 points, while Meyer hauled down a game-high 11 rebounds. Liddell was tremendous on the defensive end and held SJU's Pat Calathes to six points on 3-of-16 shooting. The Billikens outrebounded the Hawks 41-28, including 13 offensive rebounds. The Billikens held the Hawks to a season-low in scoring.

The Billikens improve to 16-12 overall, 7-7 in the Atlantic 10. The Hawks drop to 17-9, 8-5 in the A-10.
