Box Score

EVANSTON, Ill. - Saint Louis held a productive Northwestern offense in check Sunday afternoon and emerged with a 0-0 double-overtime tie at NU's Lakeside Field.

The Billikens (4-1-3) handed the Wildcats (5-2-1) just their second shutout of the season. Northwestern, which saw its three-game winning streak halted, had scored at least two goals in five of its first seven games.

Keeping Northwestern off the board in the first half proved to be a major task for Saint Louis. The Wildcats out-shot the Bills 7-0 and earned a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks. NU's advantage in shots dipped to 4-1 in the second half, however, and the Billikens did not allow the Wildcats a corner kick.

SLU created more chances than its opponent in the extra frames, out-shooting Northwestern 3-1 in the two overtimes combined. Junior midfielder Susan Frederickson (St. Louis/St. Joseph's) and sophomore back Kristyn Gawin (Madison, Wis./Middleton) launched strong shots on goal in the first and second overtimes, respectively.

Freshman Hannah Perry (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) made four saves and registered her fourth shutout of the season, while NU keeper Carolyn Edwards collected three saves.

With the deadlock, Saint Louis tied the school record for ties in a season, joining the 1997, 1999, 2000 and 2003 Billiken teams.

The Billikens begin Atlantic 10 Conference play Friday, Sept. 26, hosting Duquesne at Robert R. Hermann Stadium. Game time is 7 p.m.
