Philadelphia - The Saint Louis Billikens had their two-game Atlantic 10 Conference winning streak end 65-40 at Temple on Thursday at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia. The Billikens had won their last three games played in Philadelphia, but saw that streak end to a hot-shooting Owls squad.
III scored at the 14:16 mark, but the Billikens did not tally again for over five minutes. The Owls kept up their hot shooting and scored 10 straight points. Barry Eberhardt sank two free throws, but SLU went another three minutes without a point. The Owls ended up shooting 64.3 percent in the first half, including 5-of-8 from 3-point range, as they took a 43-16 lead at intermission.
The Owls started the second half by hitting three straight field goal attempts but Liddell answered for SLU. The senior scored on a drive, swished a long jumper from the top of the key, then stole the ball and scored while getting fouled. Another jumper by Liddell was his ninth straight for the Billikens.
III topped the Billikens with 12 points. Lavoy Allen led the Owls with 16 points. Temple hit six 3-pointers, tying the most by a SLU opponent this season.
The Billikens are now 11-7 overall, 2-2 in the A-10. The Owls improve to 10-7 overall, 2-1 in conference. The Billikens return home Sunday, Jan. 25, when they host Richmond in a 2 p.m. game at Chaifetz Arena.
