Meet the Billikens: Q&A with Hannah Koesterer

Sept. 23, 2009

What is your favorite childhood memory? Playing soccer for my grade school boys team, and no one realizing that I was a girl.

At what point, before coming to SLU, did you start to believe that you could compete athletically at the collegiate level, and why? I was starting for my high school team as a freshman, and we came to St. Louis to play in the St. Louis Soccer Classic tournament. We beat Nerinx Hall, Barrington and the No. 1 team in the nation, St. Joseph's Academy, and went on to win the tournament. I played the best soccer I'd ever played in my life, and I started to believe in myself as a player.

What do you consider to be the best thing you've done to help another person? Being a supportive listener to my teammates when they're frustrated.

What does it mean to you to be a Billiken? Being a Billiken means trying your best, living the Jesuit mission and being a person of substance.
