ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis freshman forward Adnan Gabeljic scored early in overtime to lift the Billikens to a 2-1 victory against Missouri-Kansas City Tuesday in non-conference men's soccer action at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.
The Billikens, playing in their first of five games at home to end the regular season, improve to 5-6-2 overall. UMKC dips to 9-4-3. SLU resumes Atlantic 10 Conference play this weekend when Temple (Oct. 29) and Saint Joseph's (Oct. 31) come to town.
Gabeljic's goal came at 91:37 with junior Benny Estes got the Bills on the board with a tally at 34:10 off an assist from Devon Newport.
"It was great to get this result heading into our final four conference games," SLU head coach Mike McGinty said. "Tonight was a team effort. Benny and Adnan did a great job getting us goals, and everyone else contributed in the win. It is good to be back at Hermann Stadium where we have yet to lose, and we are looking forward to Friday."
Gabeljic's goal was initiated by Bellomy, who passed in to Gabeljic on the right side. Gabeljic turned and fired just inside the far post to deliver the win. It was Gabeljic's third goal of the season.
UMKC forced overtime after benefiting from an own goal in the 66th minute.
Estes registered his third goal of the season at 34:10. Newport lofted a perfect ball off a corner kick, and Estes headed it into the back of the net to give the Billikens a 1-0 lead.
SLU keeper Sito Sasieta also cleared a ball off the line on a UMKC scoring chance in the second half.
Junior Alex Johnston, Newport, Sasieta and freshman Jon Roeckle all registered two shots for the Billikens, who out-shot and out-cornered the Kangaroos on the night.
