ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis erased a 15-point deficit and Kwamain Mitchell came through with some late-game heroics to help the Bilikens capture a 68-65 double-overtime win over Atlantic 10 Conference foe Dayton in front of 9,453 fans at Chaifetz Arena Saturday afternoon. Mitchell nailed a 3-pointer with 1.0 second remaining in regulation to send the game to overtime.

Mitchell finished with a game-high 21 points to go with five rebounds and three assists. Kyle Cassity added 14 points and Cody Ellis contributed 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Dayton's Devin Searcy and Chris Wright each finished with 16 points. The Flyers out-rebounded the Bills 45-31 with Chris Johnson leading all players with 12 boards. Dayton hit 46.6 percent of its shot, while limiting SLU to a 38.2 percent clip.

The Flyers (17-7, 6-4 A-10) raced out to a 6-0 lead before the Billikens (16-8, 7-3 A-10) got on the board with 16:57 left in the first half. Mitchell came off a screen, finally found himself open and knocked down a 3-pointer from the left elbow. But the 6-3 margin was as close as SLU would get for the next seven minutes. Wright immediately hit a jumper in the lane and Chris Johnson nailed two free throws to push the lead back out to 10-3.

Dayton owned an 18-10 advantage at the 11:40 mark before Saint Louis came storming back. Justin Jordan sparked the rally with a 3-pointer from the right side and Mitchell made three free throws to cut the margin to 18-16. However, the Flyers outscored the Billikens 11-0 over the ensuing three minutes to storm out to a 29-16 lead. Jordan's bucket with 5:28 remaining in the half briefly halted the UD run before the Flyers put four more points on the board to make it 33-18 as the Bills went cold from the field for the remainder of the half. Brian Conklin's free throw with 2.5 second left trimmed the deficit to 33-19.

UD hit 51.9 percent of their shots from the field while limiting SLU to a 25 percent clip in the first half. The Flyers also held a 21-11 advantage on the boards and outscored the Bills 24-4 in the paint. Jordan and Dayton's Searcy each posted eight points in the opening half.

Saint Louis outscored the Flyers 17-4 out of the break. Cassity tossed in a 3 from the top of the key, Mitchell nailed a pullup jumper from the left side and Willie Reed scored on a layup to make it 33-26. Dayton's Wright hit a longer jumper from just inside the 3-point line to briefly end the frenzy.

But the Bills responded with five more points on a Conklin layup and another 3-pointer by Cassity to trim it to 35-31. Marcus Johnson's driving layup with 15:55 to go put Dayton back on top by four. Cassity blazed the nets with another 3 and Mitchell's layup with 14:00 left cut it to one at 37-36.

The Flyers were able to keep SLU at bay by swapping points with the Billikens over the next four minutes. But Saint Louis finally managed to capture the lead after Christian Salecich sank a 3-pointer to even things up at 42-42. Ellis' back-to-back free throws at the 8:30 mark put SLU on top for the first time at 44-42. Salecich's layup expanded the lead to 46-42.

SLU's lead was short-lived as Dayton scored the next 12 points to seize the 54-46 edge. Wright sank the first three baskets of the charge, while Chris Johnson nailed a fade-away jumper and Searcy scored on two charity tosses and a layup to complete the run.

After SLU experience a nearly six minute scoring drought, Cassity knocked in a 3-pointer from the right side at the 2:00 mark. He then made a layup with 28.1 seconds left to cut the margin to 54-51. With time winding down, Mitchell game through with some late-game heroics for the third time this season. He banked in a 3-pointer from the right side to tie the game at 54-54 with one second remaining. The Flyers turned the ball over on the ensuing inbounds, which sent the game to overtime.

Ellis tossed in a 3-pointer to put SLU up 57-54 just 16 seconds into the first overtime period. Dayton's Paul Williams answered with a 3-pointer of his own to bring the game to a stalemate with 3:12 to go. Mitchell made both of his free throws with 2:48 left to give the Billikens the two-point edge. But Wright's basket from the right side at 2:36 evened the score at 59-59. The Flyers had 21 seconds to work for the final shot and the game winner, but they turned the ball over with 0.8 seconds left. SLU threw the ball away on the inbounds to send the game to a second overtime period.

The Flyers turned the ball over on their first two possessions in the second OT period. The Bills got shots off in their first two possessions but they wouldn't fall. After Reed blocked a shot, Mitchell was fouled on a layup attempt and made both charity tosses to put SLU on top 61-59. After UD missed a shot, Conklin extended the lead to 63-59 with a layup at the 2:20 mark.

Rob Lowery kept Dayton in the game with a pair layups, the second of which tied the score at 63-63 with 58.4 seconds remaining. Ellis swished a 3 from the top of the key to give Saint Louis the 66-63 edge with 34.3 seconds left. Dayton missed a 3-point attempt and fouled Mitchell, who sank one of two free throws. The Flyers raced down the floor and Searcy threw down a dunk to make it 67-65 with 11.0 on the clock. Conklin made one of two free throws to put the Bills up by three and Dayton missed a 3-pointer as time expired to give Saint Louis the win.
