Billikens Rally but Fall Short at Drake

DES MOINES, Iowa - Saint Louis scored three unanswered goals in the second half, but Drake notched the game winner in the 86th minute for a 4-3 victory over the Billikens Saturday at Cownie Stadium.

Trailing 3-0 early in the second half, the Billikens would go on to score three straight goals to tie it late. Mike Roach got the rally started with his first goal of the season, a header off a Chad Vandegriffe cross.

The Billikens continued to press and pulled to within one of the lead when William Hidalgo notched his first career goal, putting home a cross from Roach in the 69th minute.

The pressure continued, and the Billikens finally registered the equalizer at 80:32 when Raymond Lee registered his team-leading fourth tally of the season, again off a Roach assist.

However, Drake's Matt Kuhn buried his team-leading sixth goal of the season for Drake at 85:31, delivering the 4-3 win.

The Bulldogs led 2-0 at halftime after first-half goals by Thomas Ostrander (30:46) and Hunter Kennedy (35:58). Ostrander recorded his second goal of the game in the 54th minute to build the Drake advantage to 3-0.

Nick Shackelford started for the Billikens in goal and made six saves. Roach, who had a hand in all three SLU goals, registered four points on the night (1G, 2A). Adnan Gabeljic fired a team-high seven shots.

The Billikens begin Atlantic 10 Conference play next weekend when they head to Rhode Island (Oct. 7) and Massachusetts (Oct. 9).
