Kristo's Game Winner Lifts Billikens

ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis freshman Robbie Kristo scored in the 88th minute to propel the Billikens to a 2-1 Atlantic 10 Conference men's soccer triumph over Duquesne Friday night at Hermann Stadium. Mike Roach tallied a goal in the first half and assisted on Kristo's game winner.

The Billikens improve to 3-7-1 overall and 1-2 in the A-10. They return to action Sunday when they host St. Bonaventure at Hermann Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m.

Duquesne (3-6-2, 0-1-1 A-10) jumped on the board first with a goal by Joshua Patterson. Simon Gomez started the scoring play with a shot that was saved by SLU keeper Nick Shackelford. However, Patterson pounced on the rebound and put it into the back of the net to give the Dukes a 1-0 lead.

Roach equalized in the 24th minute. On a free kick to the right of box, he curled a shot over the outstretched arms of the Dukes keeper, making it a 1-1 game at 23:02. It was Roach's second tally of the season.

That remained the score for the rest of the half, as well as the majority of the second half, before Kristo won it late. Roach had possession at midfield and out-raced several Duquesne keepers before passing to Kristo, who collected the ball near the top of the box. He then took the ball to the right side, and fired into the opposite netting for his first collegiate goal and a Billiken victory.

Shackelford made six saves for the Billikens.
