ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Ruben Guillandeaux put in a layup with 19 seconds left to lift La Salle over Saint Louis 78-77 on Wednesday night.
Down 75-68 with about four minutes to go, Earl Pettis and Guillandeaux hit back-to-back 3-pointers for the Explorers (12-13, 4-6 Atlantic 10) to make it a one-point game.
Brian Conklin answered with a pair of free throws with 2:04 left put the Billikens (8-15, 3-7) ahead 77-74.
But La Salle's Tyreek Duren responded with two free throws of his own and Guillandeaux soon made the winning layup.
Guillandeaux finished with 20 points. Jerrell Williams added 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Explorers while Aaric Murray scored 18 points.
Conklin led Saint Louis with 18 points while Kyle Cassity scored 14 and three players - Dwayne Evans, Mike McCall and Jordair Jett - each scored 10. It was the first time since Feb. 4, 2009, that the Billikens put five players in double figures.
The Billikens led 44-43 in a back-and-forth, hot-shooting first half. Fresh off a 44-point second-half effort against Xavier, SLU poured in 44 points in the frame on 56.7 percent shooting from the floor. Cassity led the Billikens with 12 points on 3-of-6 shooting from the field and 5-of-6 from the stripe.
SLU trailed 13-7 early on, but pulled to within one on several occasions after buckets by Cassity and Conklin. A Jett runner tied the score at 32-all with six minutes to go, but La Salle regained the lead momentarily before Cassity drained a pair of free throws in the middle of a 6-0 run to put SLU on top by four late in the first half.
SLU travels to Richmond to face the Spiders Saturday, Feb. 12. Game time is slated for 11 a.m. (CT), and the game will be televised on ESPN2.
