DAYTON, Ohio – George Mason converted a penalty kick in the 82nd minute and posted a 1-0 victory over Saint Louis Sunday in the title match of the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Soccer Championship.

SLU now hopes for an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament, which begins next Thursday. The Billikens will learn their NCAA fate during the selection show Monday at 11 a.m. (CT) on NCAASports.com. George Mason earns an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

"It was a tough game," SLU head coach Mike McGinty said. "Full credit to George Mason, they came in and played really well. We knew it was going to be a tough match, and we just came up a little short. Having a goal disallowed and a PK scored against you isn't going to make it any easier.

"I think we have had a great year and have a strong body of work," McGinty said. "We are No. 1 in our region and didn't lose during the conference season. It is now in the hands of the committee."

Saint Louis, the A-10 regular-season champions, is now 14-5-2 overall. George Mason improves to 12-2-5.

Sunday's game was moved to Alter High School in Ketterling, Ohio, as Dayton's Baujan Field was determined unplayable.

George Mason scored the only goal of the game in at the 81:02 mark. SLU keeper Nick Shackelford was whistled for a foul in the box to set up a Mason PK attempt. The Patriots' Alex Herrera converted the attempt to Shackelford's left for the lone goal of the contest.

The Billikens appeared to score in the first half, but the goal was disallowed after a SLU player was whistled for interfering with the George Mason keeper.

Shackelford ended up making four saves for the Billikens. Alex Sweetin fired a team-high three shots.

Earning a spot on the A-10 All-Championship were Kingsley Bryce, David Graydon, Anthony Manning and Sweetin.
