Box Score DAYTON, Ohio – Hanna Benben made a career-high nine saves, and Kirsten Clemens and Livi Logan-Wood scored a goal apiece, but Dayton netted a late equalizer and an early goal in overtime to get by Saint Louis 3-2 in the Atlantic 10 Conference opener Saturday at Baujan Field.
Danielle Tolmais registered two assists for SLU, which fell to 5-6 overall. Dayton, the A-10 preseason favorite and defending regular-season champion, improved to 5-6-1.
The Billikens grabbed an early lead when Clemens, assisted by Tolmais and Lindsay Elking, chalked up her team-leading sixth goal of the season at 9:08. Dayton pulled even just 11 seconds later as Alexis Kiehl (Ashley Campbell assist) recorded her third marker of the year.
Logan-Wood's fourth goal of the season, assisted by Tolmais and Cristina Rodriguez, at 38:04 allowed SLU to carry a 2-1 advantage into intermission.
Despite a barrage of Dayton shots, the Billikens managed to cling to the lead for most of the second half. But Meghan Blank (Sidney Leroy assist) headed in her second goal of the year at 81:57, and the game went to overtime. Kiehl, assisted by Blank, struck again at 92:01 to give the Flyers the win.
Saint Louis returns to action Friday, Oct. 10, at A-10 opponent George Mason. Game time is 6 p.m. (CT).
