Billikens Fall to Mississippi State, 75-50

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Mississippi State shot 55.6 percent from the field to post a 75-50 win over Saint Louis Friday in the Corpus Christi Coastal Classic at American Bank Center.

The Billikens (3-2) conclude the Corpus Christi Coastal Classic tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. (CT) against Bradley. The game will be streamed, for a fee, at GoIslanders.com. Mississippi State (5-0) moves on to play TCU in the title game of the Corpus Christi Coastal Classic.

Junior guard Austin McBroom led the Billikens with 10 points. Junior guard Ash Yacoubou scored eight points on 4-of-6 shooting.

Mississippi State started out hot, burying three 3-pointers in a row to open a 9-0 advantage early on. The Bulldogs connected on 63.6 of their shots in the opening half, including 11 of their first 12.

The Billikens trailed by as much as 18 in the first half before clawing back thanks to a 9-1 run to end the opening half. The rally was punctuated by a McBroom trey at the horn, and the Billikens went into halftime trailing 37-27.

In the second half, SLU pulled to within seven thanks to a basket by Yacoubou and a bucket underneath by Milik Yarbrough, but that is as close to the lead the Billikens would get.

Mississippi State went on a 16-2 run from that point on to put the game away. Freshman guard Davell Roby halted the rally with a trey, and McBroom added another 3-pointer later in the half, but it wasn't enough as the Bulldogs posted the 25-point victory.
