Billikens Shut Out Duquesne, March Into A-10 Semis

MASON, Ohio – No. 2 seed Saint Louis advanced to the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Tennis Championship with a 4-0 quarterfinal victory over No. 7 Duquesne Friday afternoon at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.

The Billikens (16-4) will face No. 3 George Washington (9-5), a 4-0 quarterfinal winner over No. 6 Saint Joseph's, Saturday at noon (CT).

In addition to reaching the tournament semifinals, SLU tied a program record with its 10th consecutive victory. The 1996-97 Billikens also compiled a 10-match winning streak. Saint Louis has won 15 of its last 16 contests.

Also, the Bills' 16 wins are the fourth most in program history.

Saint Louis posted two convincing doubles wins to go on top 1-0. Aspen Cervin and Madison Cook got things started with an 8-2 triumph over Chandler Consonery and Spencer Caravaggio at No. 2. The No. 1 pairing of Stephanie Hollis and Brooke Urzendowski downed Judy Li and Alexa Miller 8-4. At No. 3, Natalia Yacaman and Maria Toro led Megan Wasson and Sarah Shashura 7-2 when the match was halted.

Yacaman blanked Zuzanna Stelmaszak 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles to give SLU a 2-0 edge, and Cervin won by the same score over Li at No. 1. Cook defeated Wasson 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6 to clinch the victory.

In unfinished singles play, Miller led Hollis 2-1 in a first-set tiebreaker at No. 2; Urzendowski outlasted Consonery 14-12 to win their first-set tiebreaker at No. 4; and Alrissa Tobe led Toro 7-5, 1-1 at No. 5.
