Box Score DES MOINES, Iowa – Second-half goals by Kirsten Clemens and Tori Marshall lifted Saint Louis to its second consecutive victory, a 2-1 win over Drake Friday night at Cownie Stadium.
SLU improved to 2-1 with its second consecutive victory, while Drake of the Missouri Valley Conference fell to 1-2.
Saint Louis dominated the action. The Billikens registered advantages of 26-6 in total shots, 14-5 in shots on goal and 12-1 in corner kicks.
However, it was Drake that owned a 1-0 halftime lead. Ashlie Stokes, assisted by Maddie Nelson, put the Bulldogs on top with her second goal of the season at 37:43.
Clemens tallied the equalizer, her team-leading third goal of the season, at 58:27. She took Michelle Schwarz's pass from the corner and beat Drake goalkeeper Kylynn Moyer from the top of the box. The assist was Schwarz's first point as a Billiken.
Marshall and Lauren Tondl added two more firsts on the game-winning marker, as Marshall recorded her first collegiate goal and Tondl her first point with an assist. Marshall took Tondl's corner kick in the box and converted at 68:35.
Hanna Benben made four saves for Saint Louis.
Ten different Billikens notched at least one shot, while eight different Bills fired at least one shot on frame. Clemens led the way with a game- and career-high six shots, a total that also equaled the SLU season high. She and Lindsay Elking launched a game-high-tying three shots on goal apiece, tying their career highs and the Billiken season high.
Saint Louis remains in the state of Iowa to take on Iowa State Sunday, Aug. 31. Game time in Ames is 1 p.m.
