THE BASICS
Southern Illinois outscored Saint Louis 34-19 in the second half and posted a 65-52 win over the Billikens Monday night at Chaifetz Arena.
The Billikens fall to 5-6 overall, while the Salukis improve to 11-2.
It was the Billikens' final nonconference home game. SLU heads to Kansas State Tuesday, Dec. 29.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-- The game featured four ties and eight lead changes.
-- The Billikens led by nine at the 3:24 mark of the first half thanks to a 10-0 run, punctuated by 3-pointers from Mike Crawford and Davell Roby.
-- SLU led 33-31 at the break, the second straight game the Billikens held the halftime lead.
-- Southern Illinois grabbed a lead it would not relinquish five minutes into the second half.
-- Roby buried a pair of free throws at the 7:14 mark to pull the Bills within four of the lead at 52-45, but the Salukis would outscore SLU 16-7 the rest of the way to post the double-digit victory.
BILLIKEN NOTABLES
-- Davell Roby led the Billikens in scoring for a second straight game, tallying 14 points thanks to two 3-pointers and an 8-for-9 performance from the charity stripe. It marked the first time this year a Billiken led the team in scoring in consecutive games (19 vs. Indiana State). Roby also tied his career high with seven rebounds for the second straight game.
-- Matt Neufeld recorded a career-high four blocks in 15 minutes of playing time.
-- Ash Yacoubou finished with 12 points on 6-of-11 shooting, while Mike Crawford scored 11 points and tied his season high with six rebounds.
-- Reggie Agbeko scored six points and tied his season high with nine rebounds.
SOUTHERN ILLINOIS LEADERS
-- Anthony Beane led the Salukis in scoring with 19 points … Mike Rodriguez scored 10 points, including two 3-pointers late in the second half as the Salukis built their double-digit advantage.
