ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis dropped a 64-48 decision to St. Bonaventure Wednesday night in Atlantic 10 Conference men's basketball action at Chaifetz Arena.
SLU falls to 11-19 overall and 3-14 in the A-10, while the Bonnies improve to 16-12, 9-8 in league play. It was the final home game of the season for the Billikens. Following the game, seniors Grandy Glaze and John Manning were honored. Additionally, SLU bid farewell to four senior student managers: Mike Bequette, Joey Kouri, Matt Marske and Brad Pitlyk.
Ash Yacoubou led the Billikens with 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor. Mike Crawford added nine points and grabbed a career-high five rebounds. Austin Gillmann pulled down a career-high eight boards.
St. Bonaventure, which shot 51.9 percent from the field in the second half, was led in scoring by Andell Cumberbatch's 17 points. Dion Wright scored 16 points and added nine rebounds.
The Billikens went ahead 3-0 at the start, but St. Bonaventure answered with a 6-0 run to grab a lead it did not relinquish. The Bonnies went ahead by as many as 11 points in the first half.
SLU did not go down quietly. An Ash Yacoubou layup and a Mike Crawford jumper brought the Billikens to within three of the lead at 30-27 with 15:00 remaining.
Three-pointers by Austin Gillmann and Marcus Bartley made it 39-35 Bonnies with 12:12 to go, but that is as close as the Bills would get to the lead. St. Bona went on a 12-2 run to break the game open, and the Bonnies cruised to the 16-point win.
The Billikens are back in action Saturday when they travel to Richmond, Va., to take on the Richmond Spiders. Game time from the Robins Center is scheduled for 7 p.m. (CT). The game will be televised on Fox Sports Midwest Plus.
