THE BASICS
--Mike Crawford and Aaron Hines posted career scoring highs, but George Mason scored on nine of its first 10 second-half possessions and defeated Saint Louis 92-79 Sunday afternoon at Chaifetz Arena.
--The Billikens slipped to 6-11 overall and 1-4 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. George Mason improved to 7-11, 1-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
--George Mason led for most of the first half, including a pair of seven-point advantages.
--Saint Louis took its first lead, 21-20, following a 12-4 run.
--George Mason scored on its next two possessions, but SLU regained the upper hand, 26-24, on a Jermaine Bishop 3-pointer and a Crawford bucket.
--An 8-2 spurt put George Mason back in front, 32-28, and the Patriots took a 34-31 edge to the locker room.
--Despite George Mason's scoring surge early in the second half, the Billikens trailed just 60-52 with 8:54 to play.
--The Patriots hit two 3-pointers and a pair of free throws on their next three possessions to go on top 68-54.
--The Billikens fought back, however, scoring on five straight possessions in an 11-3 flurry to narrow the Mason lead to 71-65. Crawford buried a 3-pointer and Hines registered a three-point play on consecutive possessions to highlight the run.
--The Patriots' lead was 78-71 at the 2:01 mark after the teams traded mini runs. But Mason made 12 straight free throws down the stretch to maintain command.
BILLIKEN NOTABLES
--Crawford tied for game-high honors with a career-high 22 points. He was 10-of-19 from the field overall and 2-of-4 from 3-point range.
--Hines was 7-of-7 from the free throw line and scored a career-high 14 points.
--Ash Yacoubou tossed in 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting and tied for team-high honors with six rebounds.
--Jermaine Bishop scored 15 points and dished out a team-high five assists.
--Reggie Agbeko (3-of-5 FG) contributed eight points and tied Yacoubou with six boards, including three on the offensive glass.
--Saint Louis committed just two turnovers.
