The Basics
The Saint Louis University men's soccer team opened Atlantic 10 Conference play on a high note Saturday night, defeating La Salle 2-1 at McCarthy Stadium in Philadelphia.

With the win, the Billikens improve to 2-4-3 overall and 1-0-0 in A-10 play. La Salle dips to 5-5 overall and 0-1 in the league.

Saint Louis struck first on a goal by Jair Hernandez in the 24th minute off an assist by Joe Saad. It was the first goal of Hernandez' SLU career.

La Salle tallied the equalizer late in the opening half, sending the teams to the locker room with the score tied 1-1 at halftime.

In the second half, Max Karcher scored on a penalty kick in the 57th minute for the game-winning goal. SLU's Sascha Otte made six saves in picking up the win in goal.

It was a physical game that saw eight cautions issued, included two red cards. Hernandez was sent off with five minute remaining in regulation, and the Billikens had to be sharp in fighting off several late chances by La Salle while playing a man down. La Salle's Pat McCarthy was issued a straight red card in the final seconds of regulation.
