ORLANDO, Fla. – The Saint Louis women's tennis team saw its season draw to a close Wednesday afternoon with a 4-1 loss to Fordham in an Atlantic 10 Conference Championship first-round match at the USTA National Campus.
Fordham, the No. 8 seed, took a 1-0 lead by winning at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Cassie McKenzie and Mariluz Rojo led Estelle Wong and Whitney Weisberg 4-3 when their No. 1 doubles match was halted.
The Rams (9-9) went on top 3-0 with singles victories at No. 6 and No. 4. The Billikens (7-13), seeded ninth, fought off elimination when Alba Salinas recorded a 6-0, 6-4 win over Carolina Sa at No. 5. However, Fordham clinched the match with a win at No. 3.
In unfinished singles contests, McKenzie held a 3-1 third-set lead over Wong at No. 1, while Rojo was tied 2-2 with Tatiana Grigoryan in the third set at No. 2.
