Saint Louis came from down 2-1 to force a fifth set on the second seeded Flyers, but Dayton pulled ahead in the very end to advance to the Atlantic 10 Championship final.
The Flyers held a four point lead late in the first set, but SLU fought back to tie things at 19. The Billikens took their first lead of the match on a Kennedy Cordia ace, making the score 23-22.
Dayton and the Bills traded points from there, but a Juliana Philips ace solidified SLU's comeback in the first set, with the Billikens taking the frame 27-25 and a 1-0 lead in the match.
The second set was back-and-forth early, with six tie scores in the game, but the Flyers pulled ahead and tied the match with a 25-23 victory.
Dayton used a 9-0 run early in the third set to take a 10-point lead at 12-2. The Flyers won the third frame 25-17, taking a 2-1 lead in the match.
The fourth set went down to the wire, with the two teams exchanging points, but the Billikens took a late 24-23 lead, eventually winning the game 26-24.
Saint Louis jumped out to a 10-5 lead in set five, but the Flyers battled back to tie the game at 11. There were then ties scores at 12, 14, 15, 16 and 17, but Dayton took the final two points of the match and advanced the the final round of the tournament.
The Billikens ended their season with a 17-12 record, 11-5 in Atlantic 10 play.
Junior Maya Taylor led the way for SLU, recording 19 kills (.298), eight digs, two blocks and one service ace.
Senior Sien Gallop collected 17 kills in the match, along with 19 digs and one service ace. She ended her career ranked ninth in SLU history with 123 aces.
Phillips finished the night with 13 kills and a team-best four service aces.
Cordia recorded 55 assists in the five sets, along with 16 digs, one kill and one service ace.
Sophomore Emily Imo tallied a career-high 29 digs in the match.
