Saint Louis out-rebounded Colgate 50-29 Sunday afternoon, defeating the Raiders 61-51 on their way to improving to 5-1 on the season.
For Colgate, it's their first loss of the year and they move to 5-1.
The Raiders used five 3-pointers in the first quarter to take a 20-13 lead at the the end of one. Prior to today's game, the Billikens had only given up 14 three's total through their first five games on the season.
Sophomore guard Ciaja Harbison tied the game at 21-21 with back-to-back layups, and then a Kendra Wilken free throw gave the Billikens their first lead of the game at 26-25.
SLU held the Raiders to just six points in the second quarter and took a 26-26 tie score into the locker room at half.
The Billikens quickly negated a 9-0 Colgate run to start the second half with a 6-0 run of their own.
With five seconds left in the third quarter and the Bills down one, Harbison drew a foul and went to the line for two. After connecting on the first, she grabbed her own rebound on the second, passed the ball to Wilken, who then made the layup and gave SLU a 42-40 lead at the buzzer.
Saint Louis scored the first six points in the fourth quarter, extending their second half run to 20-5. They went on to outscore the Raiders 19-11 in the quarter and take home the 61-51 victory.
The Billikens out-rebounded their opponent for the fifth time this season, with today marking their largest margin at +21.
Harbison finished the day with 14 points, five assists, five rebounds and two steals.
Wilken recorded double-digit rebounds for the third time this season, coming just short of back-to-back double-doubles with 15 points and nine rebounds.
Myriama Smith Traore collected her third double-digit rebounding effort, grabbing 11 boards and eight points.
Freshman Rachel Kent and sophomore Myia Clark finished with nine points each. Kent chipped in four rebounds and four assists, while Clark added six rebounds.
Saint Louis will travel to Southern Illinois on Wednesday to close the month of November. The Billikens and Salukis are set to tip at 2 p.m.
