Kent’s Late Game Heroics Lift Billikens Past Duquesne

Freshman Rachel Kent's 3-pointer with 1.2 seconds left put Saint Louis up 51-50 in its 53-50 win over Duquesne Sunday night.

Kent led the Billikens (11-9, 3-4 in the A-10) in scoring for the third time this season, turning in 16 points, five rebounds and one assist.

Kendra Wilken collected her fourth double-double, dropping 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Ciaja Harbison recorded 15 points, three rebounds and a game-best six assists.

Amaya Hamilton led the Dukes (13-7, 3-4 A-10) with 14 points, while Laia Sole and Libby Bazelak contributed 12 points each.

Five different players found the scoring column for Saint Louis in the first quarter, including two Wilken free throws to give the Billikens their largest lead in the game at 19-7.

Duquesne opened the second period with a 9-2 run to pull within two, but a Harbison 3-pointer put SLU back up five at 24-19. The Dukes recorded the next two buckets before Kent connected on a jumper to give the Billikens a 26-23 halftime lead.

Saint Louis began the second half on an 8-0 run to hold a 34-23 advantage. The Dukes outscored the Billikens 7-3 the rest of the period to pull within six at 37-31 at the end of the third quarter.

A 10-0 run to open the fourth gave Duquesne its first lead of the night at 41-37. With six seconds left, Amanda Kalin connected on a free throw for the Dukes, putting them up 50-48.

Harbison took the inbound pass down the court and kicked the ball out to Kent who nailed a trey with 1.2 seconds left to put Saint Louis up 51-50.

Two Brooke Flowers free throws pushed the Billikens ahead 53-50 and sealed the win.

Following its bye week, Saint Louis will open February at George Washington Feb. 2.
