THE BASICS
• Saint Louis improved to 6-2 on the young season Friday afternoon, defeating North Dakota State (3-7) in its opening game in the Snowbird Classic.
• Trevor Harris picked up his second win of the year, and Ryan Nolan earned a 4.0 inning save for his second of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Cole Smith led off the game with a walk, and two batters later, Jake Garella made it second and third with his fifth double of the year. A Cam Redding groundout brought home Smith and gave the Billikens and early 1-0 lead.
• SLU used four hits to push across three runs in the third inning, including a second RBI from Redding, an RBI single by George Sutherland and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Zach Frieling.Â
•  North Dakota State took one back in its half of the third, cutting the Billikens lead to 4-1.
•  The Bison added another in the fifth and sixth innings, pulling within one of SLU at 4-3.

• Harris' final line: 5.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 SO.
• Nolan's final line: 4.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 SO.
• Redding finished 1-for-5 with two RBIs and one run scored.
• Bartlett (2-5), Garella (2-4) and Sutherland (2-5) each connected on two hits in the game.
