THE BASICS
• Alyssa Chavez drove in four runs, and Sadie Wise and Kat Lane delivered four hits apiece Saturday as Saint Louis split a pair of games on day two of Southern Mississippi's Black & Gold Invitational.
• Pitcher Chloe Wendling recorded a 9-1 victory over Mississippi Valley State in the opener. SLU fell to Southern Miss by the same score in game two.
 
GAME 1 – HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Louis wasted no time, scoring three times in the top of the first inning. Gabbie Kowalik's double brought home the first run, followed by Chavez's sacrifice fly. The third run scored on an error.
• The Billikens doubled the lead in the second. Wise drove in the first tally with a double, and Chavez made it 6-0 with a two-run single.
• Wise delivered another RBI double in the third for a 7-0 SLU advantage.
• In the fifth, Chavez plated her fourth run of the game with a single, and a second marker scored on an error.
• Mississippi Valley spoiled the shutout in the bottom of the fifth, but Wendling stranded two runners to preserve a run-rule win.
 
GAME 1 – BILLIKEN NOTABLES
• Wendling struck out four and walked only two.
• Wise had three doubles, tying the Saint Louis single-game record for two-baggers set by Jill Pursell in 2007.
• Kowalik added a single for a two-hit game.
• Lane, Allie Herron, Maria Connell and Kristi Stevenson had a single apiece.
• The Billikens stole seven bases – tying the school record – including two apiece by Lane and Kowalik.
 
GAME 2 – HOW IT HAPPENED
• Southern Miss scored three runs in the first and five in the second.
• SLU notched its only run in the third on a single by Wise.
• Southern Miss plated the winning run in the fifth.
 
GAME 2 – BILLIKEN NOTABLES
• Lane had three hits, including a triple.
• Kayla Swiderski singled for her first collegiate hit.
• Aubrey Hacke was effective out of the bullpen, allowing just one run in 3 1/3 innings.
