Sander, Billikens Shut Out VCU for Conference Win

Sasha Sander made 10 saves and led Saint Louis to a 1-0 victory over VCU Sunday afternoon in an Atlantic 10 Conference contest at SportPort International in Maryland Heights, Mo.

The win marked the fist for SLU in A-10 play this season, moving the Billikens to 1-5, while VCU fell to 4-2.

Josefina Perez tallied the lone score of the match at 16:33, off a feed from Demi Sahuleka. Perez and Sahuleka are now tied for the team lead with eight points each on the year.

Sander recorded double-digit saves for the second time this season. Five of her 10 saves came in the fourth quarter. The shutout marked the third of Sander's career.

VCU fired 24 total shots in the match, including 14 in the second half, but the Billikens held them from finding the back of the cage.

Sahuleka, Lotte Teunissen, Jordan BeSore, Brooke Mason and Perez each collected shots in the game.
