Saint Louis | Rhode Island |
•Saint Louis begins its quest for a fourth consecutive Atlantic 10 Championship title Saturday, Oct. 30, as the third-seeded Billikens host the sixth-seeded Rhode Island Rams in a quarterfinal match. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
•See the links above for streaming and live stats.
•The winner of the Saint Louis-Rhode Island match advances to the semifinals to face the winner of the quarterfinal game between No. 2 Dayton and No. 7 Richmond. The tournament semifinals and final will be played Friday and Sunday, Nov. 5 and 7, respectively, on the campus of the highest remaining seed following the quarterfinals.
•Saint Louis and Rhode Island are squaring off for a second time in seven days after meeting last Sunday in the regular-season finale in Kingston. In fact, three of the four A-10 Championship quarterfinal games are immediate rematches; No. 1 VCU vs. No. 8 Saint Joseph's and No. 2 Dayton vs. No. 7 Richmond are the others.
•The Billikens' series lead over the Rams is 12-3 following Sunday's 1-0 URI overtime victory that snapped SLU's seven-game series win streak. Saint Louis is 8-0 vs. Rhody in St. Louis.
•SLU and Rhode Island have met twice before in the A-10 Championship. The Billikens beat URI 1-0 in the 2005 title game, and in 2006 – after defeating the Rams 2-1 in the regular-season finale – topped Rhody 1-0 in the semifinals. This is Rhode Island's first A-10 Championship appearance since 2016.
•Saint Louis is 14-5-1 in A-10 Championship play and has captured five tournament crowns (2005, 2006, 2018, 2019, 2020). The Billikens bring an eight-game tournament winning streak into today's contest, having outscored their opponents 25-4 in those games.
•A SLU victory today would mark the third time the Billikens have posted an A-10 Championship win over an opponent to whom they lost in the regular season. The Bills avenged regular-season losses to Fordham in 2006 and St. Bonaventure in 2009.
•The Billikens have 143 corner kicks and have allowed only 46. They lead the A-10 and rank fourth nationally with 7.94 corners per game. In league games, Saint Louis averaged 9.1 corners and posted a 91-16 advantage over its opponents.
•SLU also tops the conference in goals against average (0.66, 26th nationally) and shutout percentage (.556, 10 shutouts in 18 games, 21st nationally). The Billikens are second in shots (15.39/game) and shots on goal (7.06/game).
•
Emily Puricelli leads the A-10 with eight shutouts (14th nationally) and a 0.68 goals against average (33rd nationally). Puricelli is third in the league and 27th nationally in goalkeeper minutes played (1586:58).
•
Emily Gaebe leads the Billikens with six goals, 15 points, 41 shots and 24 shots on goal. In the A-10 rankings, Gaebe is sixth in goals (0.33/game) and shots on goal (1.33/game) and tied for ninth in points (0.83/game). She had team highs of nine points, three assists (tied), 24 shots and 15 shots on goal in A-10 matches.
•
Abbie Miller (4G, 3A) is second with 11 points. Miller has three game-winning goals, tying for third in the A-10.
•In conference play,
Caroline Kelly had a team-high four goals.
•For a sixth consecutive season, the Billikens allowed fewer than 10 goals (five) in A-10 regular-season play. Since the streak began in 2016, SLU has yielded just 27 goals to conference opponents in 58 regular-season games.
•Saint Louis' underclassmen are contributing in a big way. In all games, freshmen and sophomores have scored 16 of the Billikens' 21 goals. In A-10 play, they netted 11 of 15.
•Over the past 12 games, SLU has outshot its opponents 217-85 overall and 107-29 in shots on goal.
•Saint Louis is 50-5-6 (.869) in its last 61 games on the home pitch of Robert R. Hermann Stadium, a stretch that dates to the final home game of the 2015 campaign. In those 61 games, the Billikens outscored their opponents 127-23, registered 38 shutouts, and never allowed more than one goal.
•The Billikens are 34-3-1 in A-10 regular-season games since the beginning of 2018. Add an 8-0 mark in tournament games and the record is 42-3-1 vs. league opponents during that span.
