ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis sophomore
Cam Redding set a school record with six hits and tied the school record with five runs scored in a 14-0 Billiken victory over Western Illinois on Sunday.
SLU takes the series 2-1 over the Leathernecks and improves to 4-11 on the year. WIU dips to 3-9.
Redding broke the single-game hits record with a single in the eighth, his sixth hit of the day. The previous mark of five hits was met 14 times in school history, most recently by
Cole Dubet in 2019.
Redding matches the school record for runs scored of five, which prior to today was last accomplished by Braxton Martinez in 2015.
In addition to Redding, the Billiken offense was clicking on all cylinders on Sunday.
Kyle Fitzgerald had three hits and four RBIs. SLU's 16 hits and 14 runs were season highs.
Scott Youngbrandt picked up the win on the mound after tossing seven shutout innings. He scattered five hits, struck out seven and walked just one.
The Billikens continue their long homestand on Tuesday when they host the Southeast Missouri Redhawks at the Billiken Sports Center. Game time is 3 p.m.
