ST. LOUIS – The 17th-ranked Saint Louis Billikens scored a goal in each half to upend Lipscomb 2-0 in nonconference men's soccer action Sunday at Hermann Stadium.
The Billikens improve to 5-2. Lipscomb falls to 3-3. It was the nonconference finale for Saint Louis, which opens Atlantic 10 Conference play on Saturday against Dayton.
Simon Becher put the Billikens on top 1-0 in the 19th minute with his team-leading third goal of the year. Becher did the work to get the ball to John Klein near the top of the box. Klein fired a shot that Lipscomb's keeper saved, but Becher stayed with the play and buried the rebound for a 1-0 Billiken lead.
That remained the score until the 52nd minute of second half. Becher again created a scoring play. He raced into the box all alone, and before he was able to fire a shot was tackled by a Lipscomb defender, resulting in a PK. Kipp Keller buried the ensuing penalty kick to put the Billikens ahead 2-0. It was Keller's first goal of the season.
The Billiken defense fought off late chances by the Bisons for the third shutout of the season. It was SLU goalkeeper Patrick Schulte's 11th career shutout.
