No. 21 Baylor Tops Billikens in Gulf Coast Showcase

ESTERO, Fla. - Saint Louis fell to No. 21 Baylor, 92-58, Friday morning on day one of the Gulf Coast Showcase at Hertz Arena in Estero, Fla.

The Billikens moved to 1-6 on the season, while Baylor improved to 4-1.

"We're looking to learn how to fight," head coach Rebecca Tillett said. "Learn to how to fight every possession, learn how to play as hard as you can every single possession, and that's what we have to keep working on."

The Bears held SLU to 22 percent shooting from the field in the first half to hold a 48-23 advantage at the break.

Mia Nicastro provided a spark for the Billikens in the second half, registering 12 points, seven rebounds and a steal in the final two quarters. Her 12 points and seven rebounds in the game were a season high for her rookie campaign.

"It felt pretty special, especially against a big team" Nicastro said. "I wanted to get the team going a little bit, I think we were all kind of beaten down by that point."

The Billikens' defense picked up in the fourth quarter, holding Baylor to just 12 points in the period, but the Bears came away with the 92-58 victory.

Brooke Flowers finished with 13 points, five rebounds and four blocks, while Peyton Kennedy added 11 points and five boards.

SLU pulled down 18 offensive rebounds, led by Julia Martinez with five.

The Billikens return to action in the Gulf Coast Showcase Saturday morning at 10 a.m. CT against either Belmont or No. 23 Villanova, depending on the outcome of that matchup Friday.
