Late Surge Pushes Indiana State Past Billikens

ST. LOUIS - Indiana State used a 15-2 run in the final 4:03 of regulation to pull ahead and defeat Saint Louis 64-62 in the season opener Monday at Hulman Center in Terre Haute, Ind.

The Sycamores fought off a 14-point deficit and took a 63-62 advantage on a floating jumpshot from Anna McKendree with 34 seconds remaining in the contest.

"Disappointing result," head coach Rebecca Tillett said, "I thought we grew a lot from our last outing to now. That's what we have to do, grow every single day."

After trailing 25-24 at the half, Saint Louis used a 14-0 run in the third quarter to pull away from the Sycamores. The Billikens outscored INST 22-8 in the third and took a 46-33 lead.

Camree Clegg posted 12 of her team-best 19 points in the third quarter, including knocking down three treys in the frame.

Indiana State's offense took off in the fourth quarter, as the Sycamores registered 31 points and held SLU to 16.

McKendree led INST with 19 points, including netting the game winner in the closing seconds.

Brooke Flowers finished with 10 points, five rebounds and a game-best seven blocks.

Kennedy Calhoun came one assist shy of her career high, posting six assists, four points and five rebounds.

Peyton Kennedy grabbed a game-best eight rebounds, and Julia Martinez went 4-4 from the field on her way to eight points, four rebounds and four steals.

SLU returns to Chaifetz Arena for its home opener Friday against SIUE at 7:30 p.m.
